Christmas Message & Welcome to New Staff Members

The team at Carfi wish our clients and friends a safe and Merry Christmas! Please note that the office will be closed on the public holidays (Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Boxing Day), however Carfi’s EAP 24/7 services line will be open for emergencies.

Carfi also wishes to welcome to our team Evan Christodoulou. Evan is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and registered under the governing body, ESSA. As a new recruit to Carfi, Evan will be working in a multi-disciplinary team alongside our enthusiastic team of Exercise Physiologists, Occupational Therapists and Psychologists. As an expert in exercise interventions and Human Physiology, Evan is skilled in educating and empowering injured workers and all other stakeholders by providing them with the tools and knowledge to facilitate an injured worker's return to work. Outside of Carfi, Evan is the Captain of the Oakleigh Soccer Club, competing in the National Premiere League. We look forward to working with Evan.

The team at Carfi are also very excited to welcome our new receptionist, Ellysha! Ellysha completed her business traineeship in 2011 with the Department of Human Services, as well as recently completing studies in Youth Work. In her spare time, Ellysha enjoys keeping fit and active and reading. Ellysha is also a keen traveller, having recently come back from an extensive trip around Europe and South-East Asia. We hope that you will share with us in welcoming Ellysha to Carfi.

DEPI Peer Support Program Workshop

On the 29th and 30th October 2014 Joh, Bernie and Gus delivered a 2-day training workshop for staff of the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI), who had nominated themselves to be part of the new DEPI Peer Support Program. Over the 2-days, the group completed modules in recognising distress; coping strategies; interpersonal skills; confidentiality; and internal and external helping resources, and also learnt and applied the principles of Psychological First Aid (Look, Listen, Link) in case scenarios and role plays. Carfi congratulates all of the provisional Peer Supports and looks forward to partnering with the DEPI Peer Support Program moving forward.

Conflict Resolution Workshops

bodypicMark has been busy facilitating our very successful Conflict Resolution Workshops. Since the launch of this workshop at the 2014 Comcare Conference (Melbourne), there has been a significant demand from our clients to learn more about this fascinating area. The objectives of the workshop sessions include:

  • Drawing the connection between psychological injury and conflict;
  • How to recognise and resolve conflict before it escalates;
  • Supporting Managers to have the conversation with people in conflict;
  • Providing a framework to resolve issues;
  • Developing Managers’ confidence and skill set to minimise distress, neutralise disappointment, and avoid disengagement among staff; thereby avoiding the conflict cycle;
  • Determining when professional help is required.

Mark’s presentation was featured on the OHS Alert website on the 11th September 2014 (see:

Stay tuned for the dates of the 2015 workshops!
